Here’s what you missed:
About the workshop
This workshop begins with an informative demonstration of how to assemble a moss terrarium from start to finish. Afterwards, participants will create their very own medium-sized terrarium.
For every workshop we provide a kit with all the ingredients for your new terrarium, including a medium sized glass container, stones, dirt, a selection of mosses and care instructions.
You may bring your own container to the class if you wish, but please select a lidded, clear glass container around 6 to 8 inches tall. You may also wish to bring some unique rocks, or tiny items to decorate your landscape.
No experience is required! Every terrarium is unique!
Workshops are for 12 people maximum and bookings are first come-first served. We will create a waiting list if there is enough interest.
Cancellations require at least 48 hrs notice, or no refund will be issued.
What do I need to bring?
You might want to bring some note paper to take notes, and you can bring some little things to decorate inside your terrarium, like special rocks or little miniature figures. Try to avoid anything organic like sticks or leaves as decorations because they will just get moldy over time.
If I want to bring my own lidded glass container where do it find one?
A great place to find glass is Homesense. The prices are reasonable, and they often have lidded glass containers in stock. I’ve also had luck with vintage and used goods stores, and sometimes even the dollar store!
Does the container have to be clear and does it have to have a lid?
Yes to both. Clear glass makes it easier to see the beautiful landscape you’ve created and also won’t interfere with the sunlight entering the container (as opposed to green glass etc). And the lid is important for managing the humidity in your little biosphere. It’s also a good idea to choose a container with an opening wide enough to fit your hand inside. Containers that have a smaller opening also tend to get more condensation at the top.
Can I make a large terrarium?
For this workshop we like to focus on small to medium sized terrariums for two reasons:
One, the price of the workshop includes your moss kit which may not have enough moss to cover a large terrarium.
Two, we try to help everyone finish their terrarium in the time allotted for the workshop, so making a small terrarium is much more manageable.
Can I purchase more moss from you?
Yes, we will have additional moss kits for sale at the workshop.
Can you run a workshop for my special event?
Yes – we need a minimum of 8 participants to run a private workshop. Please contact us for more information or to book a date.
Please contact us of you have any questions and we will get back to you asap.
